Charlotte Rampling and Niamh Algar will lead the cast of Jodhi May’s feature directorial debut Mooring

The film follows single mother Megan and her young son Charlie, who are looking to escape the hard life of river nomads; and Eve Hertford, a lady hidden away in her family home, estranged from her son John. When Megan’s canal barge becomes beached at the bottom of Eve’s property, it forces both women into each other’s lives at crucial points.

May will direct from a screenplay by Adrian Bailey.


BAIT

Written and directed by Mark Jenkin, BAIT tells the story of modern-day Cornish fisherman Martin (Edward Rowe). Struggling to buy a boat while coping with family rivalry, the influx of London money, Airbnb, and stag parties to his harbour village, the summer season brings simmering tensions to boiling point - with tragic consequences.

BAIT premiered at Berlinale 2019, going on to screen at New Film New Directors in NYC, Sydney IFF, Edinburgh IFF, Istanbul IFF, and Festival de Sevilla, winning the Grand Prix at New Horizons IFF 2019 and the Audience Award at Indie Lisboa 2019. The film was nominated for Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut for a writer, director, and/or producer at the 2020 BAFTA’s, winning Outstanding Debut for Kate, Linn, and Mark. Kate and Linn also received the 2019 Breakthrough Producer award at BIFA for their unique work on BAIT; the film itself receiving four nominations including Best British Film. BAIT was distributed by BFI Distribution in the UK, and internationally with The Festival Agency.

HARD CRACKED THE WIND

Written by Adrian Bailey and directed by Mark Jenkin, HARD CRACKED THE WIND is a dark drama of poetry, haunted by voices from beyond the grave. When a young Cornish poet purchases a writing case, curiously engraved with her own initials, she discovers a half finished verse abandoned in the lining. Conjuring ghosts with her utterance, the young poet is haunted into completing the words she finds, becoming trapped in an endless cycle of possession.

HCTW was produced by Kate Byers, Denzil Monk and Linn Waite, premiered at Encounters Film Festival 2019, going on to screen at London Short FF, Leeds IFF, Cork FF, Rotterdam IFF, Dublin IFF, and International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. Its next screening is at Indie Lisboa in August 2020.

HCTW was supported by BFI NETWORK, Falmouth School of Film and Television, Culitivator and FEAST.
